What We Provide

Funeral, cremation, and memorial services.

Every service is overseen personally by a licensed Albright family director, from the first telephone call to the committal at graveside.

Service One

Traditional Funerals

A traditional funeral typically includes a visitation, a religious or civil service, and a committal at the cemetery of your family's choosing. It is the form of farewell that has served the families of Centre County for one hundred and thirty-eight years and is still chosen by the majority of those we serve.

Albright & Sons coordinates directly with all Bellefonte-area churches and with the four Centre County cemeteries: Union Cemetery, Pleasant Gap Cemetery, Saint John's Catholic Cemetery, and the Centre Hills Cemetery. We provide the hearse, the limousines, the floral coordination, the printed memorial folders, the obituary placement, and the on-site staff necessary for a service of any size up to two hundred and seventy mourners (the seated capacity of our chapel).

For families who wish to use a venue other than our chapel, we provide all the same services with the funeral director and staff traveling to the church or other location.

Cremation Services

In 1989 Richard W. Albright installed an on-site crematory at 124 East Linn Street, making Albright & Sons the first funeral home in Centre County to offer cremation under its own license and supervision. Today every cremation we conduct takes place within our building, performed by a member of our licensed staff. Your loved one never leaves our care.

A cremation service may include a traditional visitation and chapel service before the cremation, a memorial service after the cremation with the urn present, a direct cremation followed by a private gathering at a date of the family's choosing, or any combination. We will walk your family through the choices and never recommend more than what you need.

The Albright family has held licensure as crematory operators continuously since 1989. We have never engaged a third-party crematory and have never transported a remains out of our building.

Service Three

Memorial Services

A memorial service is a gathering held to honor a life when a traditional visitation and committal are not desired. Memorial services may take place in our chapel, in a church or synagogue, at a family member's home, at a Centre County park or pavilion, or at any location of personal significance to the family.

The form of the service is determined entirely by the family. Some are religious in character; some are not. Some include a eulogy from a single family member; others include readings, music, and reflections from many. Some are an hour; some are an afternoon. We will help your family design a service that reflects the life it commemorates.

Veterans' Services

For more than a century — since Edwin Albright himself, a Union veteran of the 148th Pennsylvania — this firm has provided full military honors coordination for veterans of every branch and every conflict. We work directly with the Centre County Veterans Affairs office, the Pennsylvania National Guard honor guard, the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration, and the appropriate veterans' service organizations (American Legion Post 33, VFW Post 5825, AMVETS).

Military honors at no charge to the family include the playing of Taps, the folding and presentation of the United States flag, and a rifle salute where requested. Burial in a national cemetery (including Indiantown Gap National Cemetery) is coordinated by our staff at no additional fee beyond the standard funeral cost.

Active-duty and reserve military members in Centre County receive a complimentary pre-arrangement consultation.

Aftercare & Annual Remembrance

The funeral is one day. Grief is a longer journey. For every family we serve, our aftercare director maintains contact during the first year of bereavement: a call at one month, at three months, at six months, and at the first anniversary. We provide referrals to Centre County grief counselors and to local support groups including the Mount Nittany Grief Recovery Program and the Centre Helps bereavement line.

Every November, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Albright & Sons hosts a Service of Remembrance in our chapel. Every family we have served in the past twelve months is invited; a candle is lit and the name of each loved one is read aloud. The service is non-denominational and is open to the public. It has been held without interruption since 1923.
